John Mayall nascido em MacClesfield, Inglaterra, foi um dos principais e mais importantes precursores do blues britânico.

Em 1955 formou seu primeiro grupo, The Powerhouse Four e, posteriormente a sua mais famosa banda, que contava com Eric Clapton, Peter Green (Fleetwood Mac) e Mick Taylor (The Rollin Stones).

Os Bluesbrakers gravaram discos, na década de 60, que são considerados clássicos do blues rock.
