O "Velvet Revolver" foi formado quando três membros do Guns N' Roses - Slash, Duff McKagan e Matt Sorum - juntaram-se para tocar no bar de um amigo músico, Randy Castillo, em 2002. Eles decidirem, então, formar uma nova banda e convidaram o guitarrista Dave Kushner e Scott Weiland para os vocais.
