São 30 (na versão original, de 2007, eram os 25 do título, mas, na versão de 2009, foram acrescidos mais 5) “artefatos” psicodélicos britânicos, gravados para o selo EMI por diferentes artistas nos anos 60. A coleção é um bom apanhado do som psicodélico que rolava no Reino Unido na década do "flower power", tocado, na sua maioria, por obscuras bandas, que raramente passaram do primeiro disco (algumas inclusive gravaram apenas compactos, e nem sei se foram duplos...).

A seguir, a resenha do disco, por Lindsay Planer, extraída do site allmusic e vertida livremente do inglês.
O convenientemente intitulado Insane Times (2007) é uma compilação do Reino Unido, comemorativa dos 40 anos do renascimento da música pop psicodélica, com mais de duas dúzias de gemas obscuras do volumoso arquivo da EMI. O pesquisador e compilador-chefe do pacote, John Reed, aponta brevemente no prefácio das suas anotações faixa por faixa, que, sendo um volume dedicado às raridades hippies da EMI, deveria então ostentar “Vegetable Man”, do Pink Floyd, “Carnival Of Light”, dos Beatles, e “Hurdy Gurdy Man”, do Donovan, porém essas conhecidas e amplamente pirateadas seleções não puderam ser inseridas por “motivos contratuais”. Malgrado não tenha sido possível trazer essas específicas canções à luz do dia digital, ainda existem muitas guloseimas que estão recebendo a merecida exposição. Algumas, pela primeira vez, em décadas, literalmente. Várias das bandas encontradas nessa antologia não passaram de promessas. Antes de entrar para as fileiras do Yes, Steve Howe contribuiu para o som psicótico da Tomorrow em “Real Life Permanente Dream”. Em deferência ao encarte, os irmãos Michael e Peter Giles juntaram-se a Robert Fripp quando eram conhecidos como The Brain e responsáveis por “Nightmares In Red”, um pastiche surrealista de melodia e dissonância. No lado completamente oposto do espectro estilístico, o ex-membro da Yardbirds, Paul Samwell-Smith oferece a sombria e autocomiserativa balada “World Spinning Sadly”. Aliás, a marca Zonophone (comentário meu: subsidiária da EMI, que lançou originalmente o disco; notem que o resenhista deu uma guinada de 180º no assunto, como se fosse a coisa mais natural do mundo...), é conhecida como denominando um dos antigos e conhecidos toca–discos portáteis. Vinha alojada numa caixa auto-suficiente (comentário meu: eu tive, e muita gente da minha idade ou mais velho também já teve, um toca-discos assim; era uma maleta: quando aberta, a parte de baixo [a base] era o prato e a tampa continha os alto-falantes; muito bolachão eu escutei nesse “artefato” jurássico, sucessor da eletrola ou vitrola) e foi usado primeiramente para a demonstração das chamadas “máquinas falantes” nas regiões mais tecnologicamente atrasadas dos Estados Unidos.

Como o título explica, trata-se de um disco-tributo aos Beatles, prestado por músicos vinculados aos gêneros hard rock e heavy metal (aliás, preparando a postagem, constatei que há discos-tributos aos Beatles de praticamente todos os gêneros: garage, country, etc.; é impressionante: basta pesquisar no site da Amazon ou no allmusic para se ver a quantidade de homenagens aos Beatles, oriundas das mais diferentes “tribos”); como se pode notar nos créditos, todos são “figurinhas carimbadas” do hard e do metal. O resultado me soou interessante... bem, no mínimo diferente. Penso que merece uma conferida. Um bom passatempo, pra quem já encheu de palavras cruzadas, de jogar paciência e de render homenagem a Onan na madruga assistindo vídeos pornôs, é relacionar os músicos listados nos créditos com a suas respectivas bandas; quem acertar todos, em menos de 5 minutos, pode ser considerado um hardroqueiro ou um metaleiro diplomado; já pode fazer o sinal do diabo nos shows de cabeça erguida (se o trago e outrosquetais deixarem, é óbvio)...
